At Machitech Automation, we have a steadfast dedication to customer satisfaction.  We achieve this in a variety of ways, but it always remains our first priority.  It is the reason that we use only the highest quality, most durable materials when constructing our state-of-the-art CNC plasma cutting systems.  It is the reason we partner with great brands like Hypertherm, Thermal Dyanmics, KMT Waterjet Systems, and IPG Photonics.  And, it is the reason that we offer such a wide selection of cutting solutions to meet our client's various cutting needs.  We go above and beyond because we have great pride in our work and want to ensure that the customer feels good about their investment at every stage of ownership.  We know that our clients will need help at different stages of ownership depending on their experience and knowledge about metal fabrication and CNC plasma cutting systems so we offer 3 different kinds of support to our clients.

The first type of support we provide to clients is installation.  While there are many CNC plasma cutting system manufacturers, not all provide installation, but we do.  Our professional trained technicians from Machitech Automation will travel on-site for system installation to ensure our customer's complete satisfaction.  We want our customers to know that their machines have been properly installed and be there, in person, to help answer any questions or explain any features.  Further, on-site training on all aspects of the equipment and software is included.  This is certainly not something that all manufacturers offer but we know that on-site training can make all the difference because you can ask us questions, right in the moment, about how to do the specific kinds of cutting that you intend to do.

The next type of support we offer to clients is service.  While our technicians are best suited to repair Machitech systems, they are also capable of servicing 3rd party machines as well.  We extensively train our technicians to ensure that no job is too big or too small and our large inventory of replacement parts are always available should they be needed.  Our clients simply need to call us or send us an email and we will provide a service estimate promptly.  Because our technicians are well-experienced in all machines, but are specifically trained on Machitech systems, you will have peace of mind knowing that your Machitech CNC plasma cutting system is being repaired by the best in the business.

Finally, the third kind of service we offer is preventive maintenance.  While we train our clients on how to properly maintain their CNC plasma cutting system to keep it running properly, we also provide preventive maintenance service.  Not only does Machitech Automation provide service for our products, but we also offer maintenance on 3rd party products as well.  Like our service we discussed above, simply call us or send us an email to schedule your routine maintenance appointment for your cutting system.  We believe that by going above and beyond for our clients, we maintain loyal customers and make investing in our products a truly great value that will continue to pay for itself again and again.

CNC Routers Useful for a Variety of Projects

Our CNC plasma cutting systems are complex automated cutting and routing tools that have been carefully crafted for metal fabrication shops.  A CNC router is just like a traditional router but it is computer controlled for optimal precision and accuracy.  Woodworkers Journal provides a helpful overview of how CNC routers work, "Maybe you’ve been to a big woodworking show before and were mesmerized by the immense, industrial CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machines. Full sheets of plywood slide in one end and cabinet parts — complete with joinery cuts, holes for shelving pins, pilots for mounting screws and even decorative grooving — emerge on the other… You do need a computer and a CAD (Computer-Assisted Design) program to run them. Typically a desktop CNC router will come with a version of a CAD software program so you can draw what you want to cut. Then you switch to some sort of toolpath program, also provided with the machine. There you select the cutter (or cutters) you intend to use. The software calculates the cutting instructions and the calculation yields a file that you can name and save. Next, you secure the wood in the machine, install the correct bit, and begin the routing process. The cutting action happens automatically. CNC routers cut in what are called three axes or directions. Up and down is the Z coordinate or axis. Think of left and right as the Y-axis. Forward and back could be called the X-axis. With a variety of bits and a computer program working in those three directions, the sky’s the limit. However, the overall size of the machine’s bed and cutting range will determine the maximum workpiece size you can manipulate." Through the use of our state-of-the-art software, toolpaths are generated and the software tells the router exactly how and where to route.  A CNC router can be used in a variety of applications on both wood, plastic and aluminum, including furniture, door carvings, wood panels, sign boards, wooden frames, moldings, other exterior decorations, musical instruments and much more.  At Machitech, we are proud to offer a selection of CNC routers to suit our customer's unique needs.

Our CNC routers are the best cutting and machining tool for non-ferrous materials.   Machitech CNC routers are available in a variety of table dimensions, including 5' x 10', 6' x 12', 8' x 24' and can also be designed in custom dimensions to accommodate specific needs.  They are equipped with a 10HP spindle and an 8 stations automatic tool changers amongst many other features.  They are powered by brushless servo motors and have a strong, durable gantry that is a helical rack and pinion drive on X and Y axis.  Additionally, the gantry features high precision linear rails on all axis and automatic gantry squaring.  The powerful CNC controller is  a Machitech CNC controller that includes an industrial sealed enclosure, industrial fan-less touch screen computer, remote help technology, USB port, keyboard and mouse and is also standard G-Code supported.

If you are not yet familiar with what a water jet system is, you should be because it is quite fascinating.  Unlike a plasma cutter, a water jet cutter uses water propelled to create an intense, high-pressure stream that can cut materials.  Water jet cutting offers advantages over other cutting methods because it does not use heat so it does not produce burnt edges or the other problems typically associated with other cutting methods; it produces an extremely pristine cut.  Because there is no heat-affected zone, it is an ideal cutting method for a wide variety of materials including metals, plastics, acrylics, laminates, composites and more.  In addition to being capable o cutting a wider array of materials, it can also cut thicker materials.  At Machitech Automation, we produce world-class water jet systems that provide our clients with versatility and unitized system.

Machitech Automation water jet systems are specially designed for high precision cutting on a heavy unitized frame that can be increased in size as the customer's needs grow.  Our systems feature innovative inverse rail systems and bellows protection with exceptional accuracy and cut quality.  We designed our systems with our client's unique needs in mind which is why we specially designed our water jet systems for high precision cutting on a heavy unitized frame that can be increased in size as the customer's needs grow. Our tables come with standard dimensions that include 10' x 5', 12' x 6', 10 x 20' and can also be made available in custom dimensions as needed.  Our water jet systems produce a cutting speed of 0 to 500 IPM, related to process and power source.  Our waterbed provides a positioning accuracy of 0.001'' and our maximum table capacity is a 4'' material thickness.  We use KMT and Hypertherm water jet pumps for power.  Further, our water jet systems use a 6'' x 8'' steel, fully machined gantry and the clearance under gantry is 8 1/2''.  Constructed of the best materials, we use 3/4'' Agma 10 rack and pinions, 20 mm linear bearings with Raydent coating which offers superior corrosion resistance on machined surfaces.  The motors are fully integrated with Bosch Rexroth AC Servo and Serco II drive controller, which is the latest generation digital interface for communication between industrial controls, motion devices, and input/output devices (I/O).  The Sercos III drive controller uses networking cabling, which allows for faster communication and better reliability vs. analog connections.  We use a pneumatic pinion engagement system to ensure positive rack contact.  Ultra precision helical planetary gearboxes for the smoothest motion possible and produces the lowest noise, compared with conventional speed reducer.  The CNC controller is an Edge Pro CNc controller that is Windows based and uses a 15'' glass touch screen.  Further, it contains 2 USB ports and has a network connection.  It also has up to 1GB in memory and uses phoenix software.  We provide part program support (PPS), remote help, auto gas support, DXF import, and simple shape nesting along with 2 years warranty (offered by Hypertherm).  We suggest our clients use Hypertherm Cam Solutions ProNest for nesting software.  Finally, we offer a variety of options because we go the extra mile for our customers.  These options include: camera, electronic raise/lower system (waterbed), ink jet or dot peen marker, removable trays for easy cleanout (waterbed or downdraft), security system (pull cord, light curtain).

When it comes to metal fabrication, there is “more than one way to skin a cat,” so they say.  There are a variety of cutting mediums from which to choose and they each have their own unique advantages. For today’s purposes, we are discussing waterjet cutting.  The waterjet cutting systems produced by Machitech Automation provide versatility in a unitized system. Waterjet cutters are often compared side by side with laser cutters and, while they each have their own unique strengths, waterjet cutters do offer a number of advantages worth considering.

Machitech Automation waterjet cutters are specially designed for high precision cutting on a heavy unitized frame that can be increased in size as the customer’s needs grow.  They feature an innovative inverse rail system, bellows protection, and exceptional accuracy and cut quality. Waterjet table dimensions include 10’ x 5’, 12’ x 6’, 10’ x 20’, and custom dimensions.  Additionally, the frame can be increased in size as the customer’s needs grow.  Waterjet cutters provide exceptional accuracy and cut quality.  Rather than using a laser to cut, waterjets used high powered streams of water to cut.  Because it does not use heat, there is no concern of warping or damage to materials during the cutting process.  Waterjet cuts are exceptionally high quality, with little-to-no-dross.  Further, this cutting method provides exceptional cut precision.  If you are looking for a versatile cutting system, look no further than waterjet cutters.  They are capable of cutting almost any material because they use an erosion process – not only can it cut stainless steel and plastic, it can even cut laminated materials.  The waterjet systems produced by Machitech have a cutting speed of 0 to 500 IPM, related to process and power source.   It has a maximum traverse speed of 1400 IPM for fast positioning and processing of plate and the positioning accuracy is 0.001’’.  The table is capable of cutting materials with a thickness of up to 4’’.  Our waterjet systems are highly exceptional because they are constructed of incredibly durable and high quality materials and they also boast a variety of options that are often not available with other systems such as a camera, electronic raise/lower system, ink jet or dot peen marker, removable trays for easy cleanout, security system and more.  When considering what type of cutting system is best for your metal fabrication shop, it is important to consider the types of materials you cut, the volume of materials you cut, and what options you may desire to have in the future.  Waterjet cutting systems are incredibly versatile and flexible, capable of cutting a great deal of materials with exceptional precision and accuracy.

What Plasma Is and How It Works

Plasma cutting is a staple of the metal fabrication industry.  We talk often about its benefits, its advantages for cutting certain kinds of materials, the types of plasma cutter options that exist and more – but do you really know what plasma cutting is and how it works?  Do not worry if your answer is no!  We are here to help clarify what exactly plasma cutting is, how it works and why you should be using it in your metal fabrication shop.  At Machitech Automation we carry a wide selection of CNC plasma cutting systems that contain plasma torches from various brands to meet your metal fabrication needs.

So, what exactly is plasma?  It is often described as the fourth state of matter. If the three states of matter are solid, liquid and gas, then we have deemed plasma to be the fourth matter. These states of matter impact how an element presents itself.  For example, water in the three states of matter is ice, water and steam and the difference between these assorted states is directly related to their energy levels.  The states can change and when we add energy in the form of heat to ice, for example, the ice melts and forms water.  If we were to continue to add more energy, that water would vaporize into hydrogen and oxygen in the form of steam.  Continuing on further, if we were to add more energy to the steam, the gases would become ionized, which is a process that causes the gas to become electrically conductive.  And thus we arrive at our fourth matter – this electrically conductive, ionized gas is called plasma.

Now that we know how plasma is generated, it is important to understand how it cuts through metal of various widths.  Plasma is focused through a torch and directed at metal to achieve precise, accurate cuts.  Plasma cutting utilizes electrically conductive gas to transfer energy from an electrical power source through a plasma cutting torch to the electrically conductive metals that are being cut.  Machitech Automation produces top of the line CNC plasma cutting systems with a variety of features and options but the basic plasma arc cutting system consists of a power supply, an arc starting circuit and a torch.  The combination of these system components provide the electrical energy, ionization capability and process that is necessary to produce high quality, highly productive cuts on a variety of different materials.  The open circuit voltage is typically in the range of 240 to 400 VDC. The output current (amperage) of the power supply determines the speed and cut thickness capability of the system.  Maintaining the plasma arc after ionization is something that can only be achieved with proper function of the power supply.  Further, the arc starting circuit is a high frequency generator circuit that produces an AC voltage of 5,000 t 10,000 volts at approximately 2 megahertz.  This voltage is used to create a high intensity arc inside the torch to ionize the gas, thereby producing the plasma.  He torch also serves  as the holder for the consumable nozzle and electrode, and provides cooling (either gas or water) to these parts. Also, the nozzle and electrode constrict and maintain the plasma jet.  If you are ready to invest in a high end, versatile, accurate, precise, state-of-the-art CNC plasma cutting system, look no further than the exceptional systems produced by Machitech Automation.

Introduction to Automated CNC Cutting

Metal fabrication has been around for centuries in one form or another.  Handheld metal cutting has been used for decades as a way to cut metal to specific parameters and produce everything from small machine parts to large works of art.  A metal fabrication shop may consist of one person or a team of people but, regardless of how many people are involved; automation can dramatically improve the metal fabrication process.  With handheld automation the room for human error is significant.  If you hold the torch at the wrong angle or distance from the metal the cut can be ruined which wastes time, materials and ultimately, money.  If you make an error with cutting parameters, more waste occurs.  Automation helps reduce the margin for error, speeds production an provides more pristine cuts.

So, what exactly is automated metal fabrication and how does it differ from handheld metal fabrication?  With automated metal fabrication, the torch is attached to an arm that moves the torch around over a sheet of metal.  It controls where it goes as well as provides automatic torch height control so that you know the torch is always the right distance from the metal to provide the best cut.  The cuts are automated with the use of computerized software including CAD and CAM software.  Many customers may think it sounds great but wonder when is the right time to make the investment in an automated CNC cutting system.  The Fabricator provides some helpful clarification and tips to determine if you should implement an automated CNC plasma cutting system, “When the requirements for cut quality, cut quantity, cut capacity, and cut complexity begin to surpass the capabilities of your manual system, that’s when you should start looking into making the investment in an automated system. Mechanized cutting allows you to cut with higher amperages, which allows you to cut a broad range of material thicknesses of 3 inches or more. Some of the present-day precision plasma systems can yield a cut quality that is near that of laser cutting. Additionally, automated CNC motion controls allow you to cut complex shapes with consistent dimensional accuracy and increased part throughput. The end result is more parts per shift and a faster return on investment (ROI).”  If you are ready to make the switch to automated CNC cutting, we at Machitech Automation highly recommend that you do your research and invest in a high quality machine that is durable and choose a complete system that comes with all necessary software, training and support to ensure that you have an optimal automated cutting experience.

Cut Pipes and Tubes with the Alpha Lazer® Fiber 3D

Cutting through a sheet of metal and getting a clean, pristine cut, even with intricate designs, may seem fairly straightforward.  An arm moves the torch around according to specific directions and parameters dictated by cutting software.  But, cutting tubes and pipes and getting straight and accurate cuts is far more complicated.  Laser cutting is the ideal medium for cutting through pipes and tubes as The Fabricator points out, “Despite the high capital cost, a laser cutting system provides a range of capabilities and associated advantages. Easily controlled with automation equipment (CNC), a laser allows an operator to cut, deburr, inspect, and even pack material while the laser runs continuously. Lasers, which concentrate a tremendous amount of heat energy into an extremely small area, produce narrow kerf widths, tight tolerances, and minimal HAZs. They cut with little distortion to the workpiece and can cut harder materials, including stainless steel alloys, nickel alloys, and titanium. However, the inside of the tubing must be coated with antispatter fluid. A laser is best as a contouring tool. It can be programmed for a variety of special requirements, such as making small holes (with diameters smaller than the material thickness), etching part numbers, and cutting difficult-to-reach areas.”

At Machitech Automation, we are proud to partner with Alpha Lazer, a leading manufacturer of CNC fiber laser cutting machines.  Machitech Automation, along with Alpha Lazer, offer our customers the Fiber 3D.  The Alpha Lazer® Fiber 3D is a tube and pipe cutting solution that can handle even the most difficult of cutting needs including round, square, rectangular, H-Beams, C-Beams, U-Beams and La-Beams with incredibly precise details.  Using an automatic loading and unloading arm to feed the machine, a laser sensor measures the profile length and sends the data to the system.  Additionally, the machine uses a centering mirror to center the profile as close as possible to the cutting head.  Further, the unloading unit is capable of releasing cut profile parts according to their lengths since they move forward and backward through the profile cut.  The Alpha Lazer® Fiber 3D can fabricate a maximum pipe diameter of 6.5’’ and the maximum material thickness is 0.315’’.   It works seamlessly with SigmaTube CAD/CAM software to achieve the most precise cuts possible.  We also maximize our customer’s safety by providing a light curtain for security protection and we also use safety and protective measures that correspond to the current local certification guidelines.  For metal fabrication shops interested in cutting pipes and tubes precisely and accurately, the Alpha Lazer® Fiber 3D is the best machine available on the market.
